Thinking of doing UK and Ireland solo?

Here’s exactly how I moved through it for 45 days.

I didn’t need a map. Just momentum. This is what six weeks of movement looks like.

Not your typical checklist trip. This was my way of rewiring.  I go with the flow and that’s what happened with this trip as well.

Here’s what happened:

England – London (May 3 to May 6)

  • May 3 Landed in London, stayed in Earlsfield
  • May 4 Likely a coach day trip (from Victoria)
  • May 5 Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben
  • May 6 Flew from Stansted to Dublin

Ireland (May 6 to June 2)

Base: Crashed with friends studying in Dublin

  • May 6 to 10 Trinity College, Guinness Storehouse, Temple Bar
  • May 14 Cliffs of Moher, Galway, The Burren (day trip)
  • May 19 Historical walking tour (Dublin)
  • May 20 Giant’s Causeway and Belfast (full-day sprint)
  • May 23 Boyne Valley ancient site tour
  • May 25 Giant’s Causeway revisit and Titanic Museum
  • May 26 Guinness STOUTie (my face, one pint)
  • May 27 Skerries Mills tour
  • May 31 Game of Thrones filming locations
  • Other days Glendalough, Louth, Kildare, unstructured city days

Scotland (June 2 to June 11)

  • June 2 Flight to Edinburgh
  • June 3 Edinburgh Castle tour and city walk
  • June 4 to 7 Inverness base (Beaufort Hotel), Highland drives
  • June 8 Day trip to Isle of Skye
  • June 9 Returned to Edinburgh
  • June 10 Underground vaults tour
  • June 11 Flight to London

England – London (June 11 to June 16)

  • June 12 to 14 Chill days, cafés, rewalked fav spots
  • June 13 Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio
  • June 16 Flew out from Heathrow

Places Visited Quick List

Tools That Helped

  • Google Maps Timeline to trace everything and remember places
  • GetYourGuide to book tours
  • Ryanair and BA apps for juggling flights
  • Deliveroo for food and grocery
  • Bolt and Freeuse for rides
  • Waterproof overcoat

Flights In and Out

  • May 2 Flew from India to London on Qatar Airways
  • June 16 Flew back from London to India on Qatar Airways

Cost Snapshot

  • Estimated total cost was $4,400 to $5,200, that’s roughly ₹3.8 to ₹4.5 lakhs depending on how hard you go on food, travel upgrades, and experiences
  • Ireland and Scotland were more budget friendly than London

If you want to know how much it would cost to travel around the UK and Ireland following a similar itinerary, here’s a calculator you can use to estimate it. Just enter the number of days and hit “Estimate.”

Best and Worst

  • Best moment Cliff edge winds at the Cliffs of Moher. Quiet, raw, everything I needed
  • Worst moment Ryanair check-in chaos at Stansted. Extra $50! because I didn't check in online. Also millennial Indians on my tour bus - millennial women are literally the weirdest out there.

Would I Do It Again

Yes. But slower. Fewer cities. More depth. And probably rent a car in Scotland. This one took a toll on my body, even though I'm a young and relatively fit guy.

Markers That Mattered

  • Total time 45 days
  • Countries 4
  • Major tours 10 confirmed
  • Transport Flights, buses, legs (mostly legs)
  • Lodging Airbnb, hotel, friends’ flat

No itinerary apps. No tourist checklist. Just moved how I felt. If you're gonna go, go like you mean it.

Planning your own UK–Ireland loop? Use this as a skeleton, break it, rebuild it your way. Just don’t make it boring.

Would You Survive My 45-Day UK–Ireland Blitz?

1. Can you carry a 16kg backpack through 4 countries?
Hell yes.
Maybe if it rolls.
My spine cracked just reading that.

2. How often do you switch cities on a trip?
Every 2 days, max chaos.
Once a week. Balance.
I set up base and never move.

3. What's your stamina like on Day 30?
Still chasing buses.
Running on caffeine.
Crying in bunk bed.

4. Budget per day?
<$30
$30–60
$60+

5. Day starts 7AM, ends 10PM. You?
Bring it.
Nap on the train?
Skip and cry.
